bought amd 6350 processor, just need mobo and ram, suggestions pls?

Hello guys, I just need a little help with upgrading my current pc. Its an amd phenom II x4 920 8 gigs of ram and i am honestly not sure what the motherboard is. Don't think it matters really. GPU is a r9 270. I have already bought an amd 6350 processor. I am on a budget unfortunately, but I think I can stretch the funds a little so long as I get pretty decent performance. I want to be able to run gta5 and battlefield 4 smoothly. Atleast 60fps 1080p.

I know i should probably upgrade my gpu but i will do that later. i will probably get an r9 290 when i get the chance in the future. For now, i need a good budget motherboard and ram suggestions please. the motherboard is where i am having trouble picking. I want it to come with the things i need and maybe a little more

I'm currently using an Asus M5A97 R2.0 with an FX 8320 and I'm very pleased with it. It has good features for the price and I think the M5A99X EVO R2.0 might be a little overkill for your needs (unless you really need the extra PCIE lanes or the 6+2 power design).

I'm using Corsair Vengeance LP RAM, which suits my needs, but you may need faster/lower latency RAM. I've had good experiences with Kingston, Corsair and Crucial, but almost all RAM is going to perform how it says it will, just buy a good well known brand :)

How much is your budget?

Don't upgrade to a 290 on a FX-6350.

Budget is around 200. Why shouldn't I get a 290? :)

As for the motherboard, I get confused, I will definitely check out both suggestions but I dont think i will need the extra pcie lanes...  I probably shouldn't skimp on it though what do you guys think of the amd 990fx? Idk If i would want to overclock as well, that might be something I will end up wanting to do. I was recommended that motherboard... I was also told the sweet spot for ram was 1866 ? How much of a difference does it make?

Uhm also what performs better, getting a single stick of 8gb ram or two 4gb??

One more thing to consider, I need all of this to fit in a fractal define r4

I am a noob forgive me X) This is all really helpful guys thank you, I don't want to order the parts and have to go through the trouble of sending them back if things don't work out.

If you plan on overclocking(which at this point I recommend for the 6 core FX chips) then the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3, but if you want to save the most money then the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3(which is also good at overclocking, but has a couple of quirks). I have the 78LMT and its a really good board, but the first thing recommend doing is either replacing the Northbridge heatsink or adding a fan to the stock one. It doesn't over heat with regular usage, but as soon as you overclock it will. There is a auto overclock in the Catalyst Control Center, so even if you don't want to overclock in the bios you can easily OC with two mouse clicks. If your current 8Gb of ram is DDR3 then it will be fine, but I recommend  1600Mhz at the minimum for the 6 core FX CPU's(if you were upgrading). Also, adding two smaller sticks will be better than one larger stick, because your RAM will operate in dual channel which gives you more bandwidth(in a nutshell). Also if you get the 78LMT, you will need to "overclock" your RAM to its stock speed(if you RAM speed is over 1333Mhz).

Also, if you don't overclock your CPU then it will bottleneck a R9 290, but if you get a good overclock(like something above 4.7Ghz) then the bottleneck won't be as noticeable.

Well, it will be a bottleneck, but not as bad with a good overclock. Also, I'm not sure if I trust those results too much, because they show a non ti 780 just walking all over the R9 290X, which I've owned both of them and didn't get those results(so I'm not trusting the tester/reviewer too much).

Thats all very helpful and informative. I guess my friend does know what he's talking about ;D My ram isn't ddr3 unfortunately, my system is olddd, what do you think about

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233170&cm_re=ram_1866-_-20-233-170-_-Product ? Price seems very reasonable, idk.

Overclocking to get 4.7 SEEMS a little much for a 6350. How high can you get a 3.9ghz processor to go?? :D Being stable of course.

So down the line when I'm ready, I guess maybe a 280x gpu? Saves me money so I guess its OK either way haha.

Also! isn't the 78LMT a micro motherboard? I am considering it but that wont fit in the define r4 will it

if you already have a FX6350 cpu and your running a R270 and your still running DDR2? wow, well i recommend number one priority is to get a good 990FX m/board that you can go to crossfire / SLi at a later date and a must get a good 8 or 16gig DDR3 @ 1600mhz ram kit that is recommended by the m/board manufacture website / user manual.

I can see people on here are quoting things and all that, but everyone is on a budget, so you already has some good components, now you need a good m/board (never cheap out on the board) look at the 990FX series boards.

I have a Asus M5A990FX pro R2.0 and run 2x Asus 7790 o/c gpu's in Crossfire and no bottleneck or problems and runs most modern games at a good medium / high setting. also you would need upto date hard drive interface (SATA 3)

hope that helps, then you can get another R270 when you can afford it. plus a good aftermarket cooler.

got to love Asus components

You can fit micro ATX or even ITX motherboards in ATX sized cases, its just that you can't fit ATX motherboards in mATX or ITX sized cases. I have a similar set up with the same motherboard and NZXT Phantom, and the only thing wrong is the crazy amount of unused space in my case.

I thinkkkkk you misunderstood but I could be wrong. I am not running the fx6350, yet. I just have it. The only new component in my current system is the r9270, everything else is...over four or five years old now x/ probably more :D

Ugh its not a laughing matter. Ridiculous. Well it does help, a lot. I will more than likely get the 990fx and look into which ram is best supported by it and go from there.

I would ask you guys how i would go about updating the bios or hard drive and If i would need to re install windows 8.1 and all of that... but thats enough help for me, Ill just pay someone to do it. Really appreciate it guys.

you will need to do a back up of all your data and files and do a fresh install with a new m/board and cpu.

i assume the old hard drive is Sata2 ? so you would need a Sata 3 drive to make it all runs smooth and fast.

looks like you need to get the whole set of components except the CPU & GPU.

got to love Asus components
