Which motherboard should i get?

Go to solution Solved by Darkman,

most Z87 boards are not compatible with 4790K cpu´s out of the box.

i would advice to go with a Z97 board

This, you're going to have a tough time finding a Z87 board compatible with the 4790K out of the box. Just go with the Z97.

Neither. Since you're shopping at Microcenter save some money and get the Asus Z97-AR

^ Also this is a good option. Asus makes decent motherboards too.

I am going to be upgrading to a Intel I7 4790k and was wondering which motherboard would be better?

ASRock Z87 OC Formula LGA 1150 ATX Intel Motherboard  http://www.microcenter.com/product/416848/Z87_OC_Formula_LGA_1150_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

or the

Gigabyte Z97X-UD7 TH LGA 1150 ATX Intel Motherboard

Most manufactures do have firmware upgrades for their Z87 boards to support the Z97 CPUs, however, I do agree with you, for the best compatibly a Z97 motherboard would be preferable. :)

Asus Z87 boards are able to flash the bios without cpu and ram installed, just psu standby power.

But Z87 boards can be tricky with cpu voltage.

I would simply not recommend it

i still would recommend a Z97 board like i said above.

Simply because it will work out of the box without any issues or headaces.
