Acer XB280HK vs. Asus ROG Swift PG278Q

testedhorse368

Hi!

So I've amassed 800-900$ to spend on a new monitor, after my Korean panel was shattered (long story for another time). I have a single 780ti to drive the monitor and will not be upgrading anytime within the next 6 months or so. I have decided on these two monitors, but am open to suggestions. The main use of this computer will be gaming.

Thanks!

Riley

I'm hoping to see Linus review the XB280HK. Any word on whether he has gotten a sample?

ROG Swift if you're just a gamer.

You will miss the color of your old panel.

The Swift probably has atleast close, to as good colours as his old IPS, seriously just because its TN doesn't automatically look bad, after all it's not cheap like most TN panels people compare IPS to.

If you're happy to play games at 1080p on a 28" monitor then go for the acer, since it's native 4K, 1080p will look just like a native 1080p monitor since you're simply halving the pixels. But if you rather play games at 1440p then get the swift since your GPU can push atleast BF4 at ultra with over 60fps at 1440p.

Korean monitors use the same panels as Samsung and lg. Most Korean monitors have really nice color.

  • 1 month later...

This has also weighed on my mind as i'm sick of the standby problems of my corner cutting HP ZR2740wv2 1440p monitor that I got for dirt cheap.

I have two 6GB 780s in my rig so I wonder if it's easier to get 120Hz at 1440p or 60Hz at 4k....Also I've never used a 120 or 144hz refresh monitor before and wonder if it really is as good as people are making it out to be.

And it's not like his old monitor was an artistry-grade, factory-calibrated monitor with a 10-bit panel for 100% colour accuracy either

I'd go with the ROG Swift, 4K might be a stretch without SLI

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k | Mobo: MSI Mpower Max | Cooling: Cryorig R1 Ultimate w/ XT140 front Fan | GPU: EVGA GTX 770 Dual SC SLI | Case: NZXT H440 | Case Fans: Phanteks PH-140SP x5 | PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 1000W | RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer | SSD: Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB | HDD: Seagate Barracude

Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 | Mouse: Razer Deathadder 2013 | Headphones: Sennheiser HD438s | Mousepad: Razer Goliathus Control | Monitor 1: Benq XL2430T | Monitor 2: BenQ RL2455HM

I have the same issue, I can't decide do I want a 1440p swift or the 4k monitor for gaming, and I was all set to get the rog swift and then the 4k monitor came out and I'm thinking that the gpus that are coming out next year or what ever are supposed to be able to do 4k with one card and at good fps. And getting a 4k now is gone be hard on hardware, but it's more future proof and there the same price.
