SSD/SATA/USB problem

Guest

Hi guys.
I got back my motherboard (asus z97 deluxe) from RMA a few days ago. It gone wrong after one week of use. Didn't recognise my drives on any SATA ports.
They said't it OK. I put it back, Installed (I got an error while installing win7, restarted and this time deleted all partitions on my SSD) and it's working now but I've still got some strange things going on.
First of all my write speeds seems a bit low for me, but maybe its OK: (I've run these test righ after another)

ssdspeed_zpscbc516f2.jpg

It's a Samsun 840 Evo, MZ-7TD120KW
I've tried driver updates.
But the most annoying thing: it sometimes "freezes" for a few seconds. While loading windows, on the black screen when the dots turn into the pulsating windows logo. It's stops there for 10 sec. or so, HDD indicator does nothing, and then decides to go on. If everythings OK I only see that screen for a a couple secs.
I also had a "freeze" in a game that's on my SSD.
And sometimes my USB keyboard is not working (both in win or UEFI). It's a Ducky shine 3. Lights are on but I cannot type.
Could this be SSD, Motherboard, CPU or Ram related? I didn't had this problems in my older system but only the SSD was the same between these parts.
Thanks

the benchmarks are fine, only the seq. write is very low, and the seq. read should be between 520-540MB/s. I have 2 840 evos 250gb too. All in all you shouldnt see any realworld difference

yep, the write speeds the ones that seem low to me as well. (the SSD is about 20 months old)

The main thing is, I don't know what causes the problems, because it only happens occasionally. I mean the freeze. I'll see what happens in the long run. I'm just kind of bummed that I have problems with a rig like this. It should be awesome.

run samsung magician and tell me how many TBs were already written

1,68TB

Health status: good

AHCI mode is on

connected to SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3) port

I've run the performance test inside the samsung software:

seq. read: 564

write: 81

It looks like it did the random read and writes but then it failed somehow. I've got the results, the timer run out but it was still on 56%.

run it again but failed again, during the random tests. this time didn't gave me any numbers. just the seq. read and write, similar to the first: 546, 81

hmm I got 1,66TB on mine and it works just fine, I realy cant tell you the problem, i would just use the ssd as it is now, read is the most important anyways

I don't think it's the SSD gone bad. I just don't know what it could be. I assume it's the moterboard again/still since I have the rare USB keyboard problem as well.

I'll see how it behaves in the future. Thanks again!

So I went to try out the last thing I could. Replace the cables. I used aftermarket data cables because of length. Now I've put in the given asus cables, and a different modular powercable as well.
It turned out my aftermarket data cable is the bugger.
Heres a test with it:

and with the asus cable:

Now I'm onto check if that cable is SATA 2 instead of SATA 3. and also replace my HDD cable. will update later.

your cable cant be sata II, otherwise the seq. reads must be about 280 MB/s. The cables are fine, maybe there is something wrong with the SSD

Well I didn't change anything else and now it works OK. I even could update the firmware with the samsung magician, which also failed before.

I really don't know... time will tell.

Do you know what speeds should I get with a Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB?

read is around 100MB/s and write is 85MB/s. (it's about 4-5 years old)

our barracuda (from 2011) 7200rpm just got 75mb/s read and 70MB/s write, thats why the pc was so slow, thats why I bought the 840 evo for our desktop too. So your benchmarks are fine.
