In need of inspection of parts before buy

So the wife decided that the best way to get my attention was to throw a book at my laptop.  Yes the screen cracked!  So I convinced her that I "require" a new computer.  I've decided this time to build a desktop since I dont move around much now since I hurt myself in the service.  This is what I have so far.  Please let me know if this will work for me.  Im not too sure on compatibility or if I need more or less.  This will be used as a video rendering machine mainly.  Some games will be played on it but to too much or not high graphic intense games.  I would like the help of this community.  Thanks

first if you want to do mainly video rendering i would recommend a 2011 chipset, because they are better suited for editing and heavy loads.

if you want to check the compatibility check out pc part picker.com it ells you the price and if the parts are compatible

The best way to pick parts for a new build is this site http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/  if you want ill pick all the parts for you for like $5.

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.

I'd strongly suggest the WS motherboard. You can watch linus' video on the board.

Also, a budget board which doesn't appear to be much different is the Asus Z-97 AR. The accents are silver, though, and it's business oriented.

It appears to be only available on tigerdirect at the moment

Also, for your power supply. i'd recommend you get an EVGA 850 watt power supply instead of the RM 850, the cables will be much better, whereas the cables on the RM 850 are very stiff

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/M3mcGX  How does this look?

The i7 4820K and i7 4790K are pretty evenly matched. If you don't need the extra power of the 4930K then I would suggest sticking with the i7 4790K. I would also swap the green drives for blue ones.

I originally decided on the 4790k but was suggested to go with the 2011 chipset.  If I were to go back to the 4790k which motherboard would you suggest.  My budget was 1600 but I successfully guilt tripped the wife to agree to 2100.  Thanks for everyone's input!

What is the budget? What country? How are you going to convince the wife to refrain from getting your attention through the use of projectiles?

Budget is 2100.  USA.  Im not going to use this budget on a moniter, Im using her brand new TV as a screen until I decide on a new one for Xmas.  So she wont throw anything at the tv.  Im making her use my older tv for her netflix marathons instead.  hopefully that works.

    good plan.

If you want to go with X79 you would have to either increase the budget a bit or trim a bit - 16GB of memory, a smaller ssd.

I would suggest a slightly less expensive Z97 motherboard.

A larger ssd that is only a bit more expensive than the 850 Pro. Unless you are doing live capture a faster ssd will not make a noticeable difference.

Different memory modules to fit under the NH-D15 in its nominal configuration.

A Seagate Barracuda hdd, a WD Blue would be a reasonable alternative. WD Green drives are designed for archival storage. They are not appropriate for general desktop/project storage.

A much better psu with a 10 year warranty (remember to register the unit to activate the warranty). 850W is much larger than needed for the build but it will allow for an additional gpu. A few dollars could be save by going with the 750W 220-G2-0750-XR.

A quiet case to help keep noise levels.

You have to decide how much storage you will need. The system I outlined has 512GB of ssd storage which should be sufficient for the system and an active project or two. The 2TB would be used for less active projects and stuff that wasn't used that often. I would suggest the external be used for backups and archiving.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media if you have another machine running Windows 8.1.

While a touch more expensive you can buy a downloadable version directly from Microsoft. When you download you will be asked if you want to put the installer on a usb stick.

You will need a clean 4GB+ stick.

So a mid tower is the right size for this whole build?

That is up to you. You can get a full size tower if it fits your space better. There is a fair bit of variance in case sizes so it doesn't hurt to measure the space you want to use and checking out various cases. You simply need to settle on something that takes ATX motherboards, 300 mm or longer gpu (you only need about 270 mm at the moment), cpu cooler clearance of at least 160mm, and has good airflow through the case. If you are not getting an optical drive you might want to look at the Nzxt H440 - very good looking with a few color options.

I really do like that one!  Are the stock fans sufficient on this one or would you consider replacing them?

I like to start with stock fans and only replace or add if necessary. Everyone's noise tolerances are different and of course ambient noise levels vary widely.
