Dual Boot Windows & OS X?

Is it possible to run Windows and OS X at the same time. I already have a windows and OS X install but i was wondering if i could run them both on the same computer at the same time?

The idea is no different to running two copies of Windows at the same time - it's simply not possible.

Our school runs something called Fiddlehead and it VM's 4 windows OS's using a Linux kernel on only one desktop. BTW it sucks

That's different - you can run OS X in a VM too if you want on top of Windows, or the other way around (although it'd be better to run OS X as the VM).

check out parallels desktop. Its quiet good performance wise

You can get a VMware image of OS X. But it is so slow I won't bother using it.

You have to use a Virtual machine.

Windows and MacOS are called Operating Systems. Because, the software does what it the name says... it operates your system.

The interface that you use is like ~10% of what an Operating System is. It's a very complicated peace of software, which huge amount of challenges it needs to tackle.

 

Having 2 operating system at the same time is impossible as they both are going to fight for actions to do, form everything like controlling the HDD or your SSD to get the requested data, just to name 1 simple examples among millions of issues related to: process management, memory management, device management, scheduler, and more. Not to mention that they don't communicate with each other doesn't help.

 

That was. IF it was possible. The reality of thing, even before you can figure out a way to hack this, the CPU only supports 1 supervisor, as security feature, and that is designed to be like this. No way of changing this, without physically hacking the CPU, which I wish you good luck. Supervisor is an unrestricted mode that the CPU gives to a software (the first software that it process upon request: so the Operating System), which will grant it the ability to do anything with the system, including full access to the memory, which a program you run in Windows, MacOS or Linux based OS, can't do.

A virtual Machines emulate a PC completely. It even has it's own BIOS which you can access. So, it allows an OS to be installed. The OS installed on the VM has no idea that it is in an VM. It thinks its a normal PC.

Due to the complexity of the VM, that is why, you cant' really play games, as it emulate hardware and passes command it received from the OS it runs to your actual OS that you have to process, and get the result. SO beside emulated hardware, you also add, the layers of another OS, added to yours. creating a massive performance drop, making gaming not really possible.
