AMD 2015 Roadmap details Toronto: Server successor to Carrizo. Support for DDR4

nicehat

In 2015, AMD is reported to release two new APUs Toronto and Cambridge. Cambridge will be the first AMD ARM custom core solution. Toronto will be the successor to Carrizo (the planned successor to Kaveri) and will feature 2 excavator modules (4 integer cores) and a volcanic island based solution on die. Keep in mind that Tornonto and Cambridge are slated to be mid and lower tier server solutions with no word on the performance grade solution. These chips would be directly soldered into the socket and would support DDR4 memory. Faster RAM = more bandwidth for the Volcanic Island solution to stretch its legs. In addition they are slated to integrate the southbridge.

With Intel's 14 nm, 18 core chips en route (Skylake) AMD is going to have to get a kung fu death grip on the Value and mid tier server markets if it wants to compete.

Fun fact: The sister cities of Warsaw, Poland are Berlin, and Toronto

Fun fact #2: The successor APU project post current gen is thought to be code name 'Basilisk' check out this shirt  and tell me what you think

Just give me 8 excavator cores (each with their own resources).

Won't happen since it's based off of the Bulldozer architecture, and it's the only thing AMD has similar to hyperthreading. 8 modules and 16 cluster integer cores would be neat though.
