Question about mics, headphones, settings, etc.

Do you get that window in device manager? BTW how do you like the Lyr? I have a bifrost uber dac.

If you right click the little speaker in the bottom right hand corner of your windows taskbar, it's in there.

I really like the Lyr, I'm working on getting a bifrost uber next.  Debating if I want to sell my LCD-2 and buy HD800 though.

Oh so I just noticed that your mic is usb..is that the trick?

No, even if it was 3.5mm input, it would still be fine as long as you go into your recording devices and click "set as default"

I didn't see this answered in the FAQ so I hope I didn't miss it. Here is my setup. I have a motherboard with onboard audio, but my audio system is an external DAC that connects to the pc via USB, and then I have a headphone amp connected to the DAC. So its PC USB out -> DAC -> AMP -> Headphones. I want to get a mic in the setup so I can play online games. Can I somehow get a mic to attach to the rear mic port on my PC and get it to work somehow, or do I need to buy a headset and switch audio output to the soundcard. I hope this question makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't. Thanks.

Yes you can do that, or a USB mic will work as well.

Yeah just buy something like the modmic, or a blue snowball, and plug them in the back of the pc.

An even cheaper option is the zalman clip-on mic.

I had to disable my soundcard so my DAC acts as the audio device. I am not sure plugging a mic into the soundcard as it is right now will work.

Buy a clip on mic or desk mic and plug it in the back of your PC

Plug it into your onboard then :P

In your windows sound devices, it will be a recording device instead of a playback device, so it shouldn't interfere with anything when setting it up.

I can't have the DAC AND the onboard audio enabled at the same time. This doesn't seem possible to me.

I should say that the DAC requires a driver so it replaces the onboard audio chip you would use if you use the onboard audio for headsets, etc.

Set the DAC as your default playback device and leave the other things alone.  It's not like a graphics card with onboard graphics, one doesn't cancel out the other.

Your recording devices and playback devices are two separate things.

You can have your sound card + onboard audio + dac amp all turned on at once, you can only use ONE as your default music / audio player.   Your mic is completely separate from all those things, as it has nothing to do with playback, it only deals with your recording devices.

so if a mic is plugged into the mic port on the mobo it will still be recognized by windows? I think that is what you are saying. Thanks.

Yea it is really good. I don't know if the Lyr is much different. I haven't got into tube rolling yet, but I want to try it soon.

The Lyr just has more output power, that's it basically.

I just got into tube rolling, I just got 2 Amperex tubes from a guy in my town that owns a tube store, they're a bit warmer than the original tubes but the bass got a lot more detailed in the process. I'm hearing things in bass-lines I haven't heard before. Really cool!
