MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4g

16gb Corsair Vengence @ 1600 on XMP

500gb Samsung 860 Evo

it does well enough for streaming, local recording, gaming at High 1080p/100fps average in AAA titles. any reason to go further on the CPU other than marginally faster render times and slightly more optimized performance?

and life expectancy on the relevance of this system in the next year or so?

Its fairly balanced but having the hyper threading from the haswell i7 will give some better performance gaming and streaming at the same time.

ive thought about going 4790k, but...meh...not sure its too necessary considering how often i ACTUALLY record/stream. ive been using Shadowplay over SLOBS anyway more recently. much less impact on performance, comparable quality. ive grown tired of SLOBS hogging the CPU even though its SUPPOSED to be using the 980 for encoding. support says 15% CPU impact is normal, but the fact that the GPU doesnt get utilized nearly AT ALL makes me think something is up with NVENC/SLOBS itself. but they wont listen

its my first REAL high-ish end gaming system. considering i came from an i5 4460 + RX 460 and only paid $400 for it, i believe its fair enough for now. and though id get better efficiency with a newer generation...is there REALLY much reason to take that plunge?

I'm using a 3570K system at the moment and it does alright. Obviously the 4690K is newer, so it should do a bit better. I would try to find a 4770K or 4790K though for the extra performance you'll get, and longevity

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

Do you have an overclockable motherboard for the 4690K?

Well with used unlocked i7's for haswell being reasonable for pricing its worth it. I am on my first ever locked haswell i7 and I am still wanting to upgrade to an unlocked CPU just because of single threaded performance.

Z87 MPower it says in the main post. Its no slouch of a board. I had the XPower for z87 and loved it, just the XL-ATX size was hard to find cases for.

system is on air too. doing quite well for itself considering the clocks...mid 40s at idle/light usage, doesnt hit higher than 70 under full load and gaming i rarely see much higher than 60

Ah I remeber the days of high temps with Haswell replace the TIM under the IHS and the load temps will drop down ALOT. My last 4770k I delidded and load temps before doing so was around 75-80C under water then after was in the 60's at 4.8GHz at 1.22v on my XPower

Ah, I'm not too worried about delidding. Plan on an aio probably. Did i mention the PC is on the floor directly in front of my baseboard heater which is on full blast? I did turn the CPU cooler to blow out the rear after getting nonsense about it being the wrong way. Replaced the paste immediately after purchase. It was BLACK, having not been changed since the systems birth 4 years ago. After a bit of TLC I saw a drop of 5°c immediately.

But I'll keep it in mind for reference, thanks
