Additional HDDs slow down boot when connected

So I just installed a Samsung 970 Evo nvme M.2 250 gigabyte card into my desktop as the new bootable OS. It works as promised, starting up in seconds, at least when it is the only connected storage drive. however once I connect all my other external and internal hard drives, it takes two to three minutes to boot. I can't seem to find an answer to this, at least not one that involves plugging in drives post startup. I have removed them all from bootable options in the UEFI, but it still takes forever. I have the following;

- Asus Prime z270-A Mobo

- i7700K

- GeForce GTX 1080

- Samsung 979 Evo

- g.skill trident 2x16gb ddr4 memory

- windows 10

It takes time for the bios to identify all connected drives. It has to do this every time. For my fileserver with 5 drives connected, it takes 5-15 seconds to identify all the drives.

Make sure all the "fast boot" options are "on".
