X399 Ram Help

Hi All,

 

I have two sticks of ram for my x399 build. In which slots should I put them in? The board has 8 ram slots and I only have two. Board: Msi-X399 Gaming Pro Carbon

Look online for the manual as some say either side 1 and 8 and some say like mine in in 1 and 3 slot

Far right of the CPU and 2 slots to the left of that are the most common primary slots.

It's a quad channel board

Yes I am aware. It has 8 slots so just populate the right hand side for dual channel

Sounds bad one CPU not having memory it kills the 2990wx performance.

Not exactly sure what you mean. You only have 2 ram dimms and one CPU, there won't be a CPU without ram.

One side of 4 sticks goes to one die the other side goes to the other die and it has to cross through infinity fabric if a side is empty . Threadripper is TWO (or 4) cpus in one package.   If you load up all cores it will be starving for bandwidth too.   The 2990wx reviews show it can be negligible in some apps and severe in others.
