Headphones fried by computer?

I've never had any problems with using any type of headphones or headset with any computer, but just recently i sat down and within three minutes of using earbuds with my computer the left earbud got so hot it no longer works and burned my finger with a simple touch. I'm not sure whether this is because of my computer and other headphones will get fried if i plug them in, or if it is possible that it was the headphones themselves. Any knowledge that can be bestowed upon me would be amazing, thanks!

It could be either, I recommend getting a really cheap pair and then plugin them into the same jack. If the PC then fries those, your only option would be to get bluetooth ones, USB ones or get a sound card.
