CPU_OPT or CPU_FAN

Steven4547466

Hello, I'm a noob when it comes to PC building, I'll be building my first one soon. However after reading the motherboard manual, it shows a CPU_FAN and a CPU_OPT. I'm using an Intel Thermal Solution TS13X for my cooler. I was wondering which to use, or do I end up using both? Sorry for the easy question, but I've never done this before, so thanks.

You should use CPU_FAN as that is the main fan header and should be used for your CPU cooler, if you don't use it then by default the system wont go past the bios as it is set not to as a protection (You can however disable this in BIOS but that is not reccomended). The CPU_OPT is just another header that bases its output on the temp of your CPU. However this can be changed with fan xpert if/when you install it.
