Portable Speaker Charging

Hello, I just bought the harmon/kardon onyx studio 4 portable speaker. Right when I got it, I immediately started playing music on it without charging it. People recommend that portable speakers should be charged to the full battery before any usage. Some user manuals also state this. After seeing that I should charge before use, I am worried if I messed up and ruined my speaker. I am wondering whether it will affect any playback like have volume issues, and I am wondering if it will not reach its full potential because of it.
