Problem with wireless keyboard!!

I have a Dell wireless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard is very irritating. You have to keep it very close to the usb receiver or else it will malfunction like typing 5 letters at once or not typing only. I have tried replacing the battery but does not solve the problem. This keyboard is two years old and my windows 7 on the pc is filled with crap and unnecessary drivers and other nonsense. Please help as this is very irritating!
