Nvidia drivers

I just got a notification that a new driver is available for my graphics card, bringing optimizations for Battlefield V. I have a laptop with a 940mx. I'm curious about how the drivers actually improve my card's performance? I mean my card isn't even close to be able to handle a game like battlefield v, why would they release an update bringing optimization for it? I don't get it. Are driver updates universal, as in for all of the nvidia cards?

Drivers are for the entire lineup, usually.

That's what i thought as well, but like what is the point in releasing an update to bring optimization for battlefield v ( or black ops 4 before that) when my card cant handle those games?

Because someone with a 980 can.  The driver doesn't care which card you have, it is just telling you that new drivers were available, it doesn't mean that every optimization would be worth it for your specific GPU.

Not particularly, except keeping software updated usually comes in handy.
