Hi All,

This is first post and first attempt at overclocking my rig.

Setup:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6800K Processor (6x 3.40GHz/15MB L3 Cache) - Intel® Core™ i7-6800K

Processor Cooling: CORSAIR HYDRO Series H100i PRO RGB AIO Liquid CPU Cooler, 240mm Radiator, Dual 120mm ML Series PWM Fans

Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 64GB (8x8GB) DDR4 2666 (PC4-21300)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 - 8GB - MSI ARMOR OC (VR-Ready) - Single Card

Motherboard: MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon -- 4x PCIe x16, 2x USB 3.1 Gen 2, 4x USB 3.1 Gen 1, 4x USB 2.0 - Mystic Light RGB LED, Steel Armor PCI-Express Slots

Power Supply: 1000 Watt - Corsair RM1000 Power Supply - 80 PLUS Gold, Full Modular

M.2/PCI-E SSD Card: 256GB Intel 600P Series M.2 PCIe NVME SSD -- Read: 1570MB/s; Write: 540MB/s (OS DRIVE)

I'd like to OC this up as high as I can go for games and have it idle when I'm just streaming Netflix. I've watched the video about OC a rig from the bios and restarting with benchmarks and then benchmarking to confirm stability.

Is this the best path still? What do risk vs reward could I expect if I OC this?

Thanks

Component lifespan reduces, but if you stay below a certain voltage it's nothing you'll have to worry about. I believe 1.4 V is pretty high for that chip (unless you're going extreme), so stay below that and you're golden. I recommend closer to 1.25 anyway, so unless you're trying to get the max frequency possible, you can settle for like 4.6 all cores if my estimate is correct.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.
