hi will move to the new apartament in next month and i want to have nice internet solution, i will have ~300mb/s internet, with fiber conenction, i don't want to heave router from internet provider. i had an idea to connetct internet modem to switch, and computers, consoles etc , and acces point to it, but i don't know if it will work, do i have to have something between modem and switch ?

Most new modems are modem/router combos. A pure modem can only give out 1 ip address. That's why you need a router (it has a dhcp server) that can expand the number of devices you can connect to the modem. Think of the router as a switch with a 4 lan ports and a wireless access point in one.

 

In short:

 

Modem>Switch = Useless. Only 1 device will have network/internet connection.

Modem>Wireless Router = Can support 4 wired connections and (IIRC, check if I'm wrong) 32 wireless connections.

 

But, if your modem is also a router, you can get a separate switch and wireless access point if that's what you really want.

ok so do you know if i can buy wired router for not fortune,most of them are for company not for home use ?

will it all work or not?(if i sound like idiot i'm really sorry i don't know a lot about networking)
