Good day tech enthousiast,

Unfortunately i am not a networking expert but i have some knowhow. Since a few years the whole municipality has fiber internet/tv/phone. In the last few years providers have kicked out the option for coax so we were forced to switch every wall outlet to rj-45. This means that everything goes over the internet and that it can influence our internet speed(100mbits). When i am downloading some stuff i sometimes forget to put a limit on the internetspeed of my computer witch couses some lag on our tv's making it unwatchable. Since that we lots of connections i have installed a patchpanel and i am now looking for a switch for arround 16 to 24 port-switch in which i can limit the internet speed for certain ports. I have searched for some switches and i do not know wich one i need; a managed switch or a regular?

I hope this awesome community can help me and for now i want to wish you guys a nice evening(or what it is in your place of the world)

greeting, hermansden

You'd also want some prioritization policy on the edge router for Internet specific traffic.  Layer 2 prioritization helps on the switch side but you would really want to shape on the Internet facing interface as well.
