First time building PC- choosing CPU

Hello I am building a PC for gaming and I am figuring out what CPU i should get first. The only other computer parts I have decided on is a NVIDIA 1060, 1070, or 1080. From what I've researched the most important factors for a CPU is the number of cores and the clock time. Is that correct? I was also thinking of going AMD because they are cheaper. I also was looking at speeds of 2.50 GHz to 3.50 GHz is. Is that good enough for gaming? These are the cpu's I've had my eye on based on what I know:

What is the difference between these AMD cpu series? If i'm not mistaken the Ryzen line is the newest. Does that mean it is better? Is there any other factors of a CPU i should be looking at when choosing one?

yes ryzen is the newest and i believe the best from AMD (i am kinda more of a intel person so i might be a bit wrong)

You want a ryzen cpu, don't buy the 7650k, they suck. Try to get a ryzen 2600 if it's in your budget. A ryzen 1600 is great as well and would be a little cheaper.

Should I be worried about the RAM type on these CPU's?

Yes, for a ryzen CPU get DDR4 ram, speed 2933mhz or 3200. Put them in a b450 motherboard and you're good to go! Remember you need a graphics card for a ryzen 2600 or 1600.

Not really. The most important factors in deciding on a cpu are budget and how the system will be used.

 

Modern cpu have more than one clock time as they dynamically adjust clocks depending on how many cores are busy. But performance is much more complicated than that.

Im trying to find one for gaming and going along the lines of a Nvidia 1060,1070, or 1080. Anymore advice you could give me?

I can't suggest a cpu without knowing what the rest of the system will look like. For gaming one typically puts more resources into the gpu and less into the cpu. But there are caveats.
