NVIDIA Control Panel Missing

I've read plenty that this was a problem with drivers around 382-384ish, but I just encountered it now. I have an MSI 1080 Ti Gaming X, and I was experiencing some odd GPU problems (namely not downclocking at idle, and almost complete inability to overclock), so I decided to do a clean install of drivers, since I didn't when I installed the card a couple weeks ago (upgraded from a 1080 FE). I booted into safe mode, used DDU to uninstall the driver (which was 416.34, the most recent), then restarted, downloaded GeForce Experience, and reinstalled driver 416.34.

 

After install, I right clicked on the desktop, and NVIDIA control panel wasn't there. I opened MSI afterburner, and it wasn't reading the 1080 Ti. So I restarted, Afterburner picked up the new driver, but still no control panel. I tried re-uninstalling and re-reinstalling the driver, and same deal. I went into the NVIDIA Corporation file folder to look for the control panel file manually, but couldn't find it anywhere. I tried installing an older driver, but GeForce Experience is weird and wouldn't let me do that. So... I'm kind of at a loss of what to do. I started this all mostly cause I just wanted my GPU to go down to idle clocks (I started a trouble shooting thread about that a couple days ago but got no helpful responses lol). Does anyone know of anything I can do?

Try uninstalling GeForce Experince and downloading the latest driver from Nvidias site. Then when installing, make sure that you only install the driver and not also GeForce Experince then perform a clean install in the custom install options. See if that helps :)

It forces me to download GeForce Experience before installing the driver, and then installing the driver through GeForce Experience.

Strange... When first installing the driver you can un-check the checkbox for GE, did you do that?

That's what I get every time. So I have to go redownload GE, and install the driver there

Weird. Did you download it from here? (I assume you're running Windows 10)

Yeah. Tried both the geforce website and the stock nvidia one (the one you linked)

No, but I did the original uninstall in safe mode. I don't see how that would affect anything though...

No. I will have to try that tomorrow (today), but it just pulls the driver off the internet so... I don’t know I’ll try it

Also had a new driver update through GE. You CAN perform a clean install through GE. Just click custom install :)
