Flex ATX noise level

Go to solution Solved by Firewrath9,

looks like a 40mm fan. look at other 40mm fans and see their decibel ratings. I'm guessing 40+ db, as it is a server PSU.

I would go with a 80+ gold one like this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014G2OUG2/?tag=pcpapi-20

as it is more efficent so less heat so less noise.

I was looking at this flex ATX PSU for a build, but I've never used one before. Since these aren't really standard consumer power supplies, it's not so easy to find acoustics in decibels or anything. What should I expect with the little fan it's equipped with?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Oh wow that's not much more expensive, the prices on PCPartPicker are not very accurate.

from the reviews it depends on the load. also this PSU only has 312w available total across both the 12v rails. so depending your use case you might have some difficulty.

I'm making a low power draw sleeper with an i5 and a low end GPU. The low output won't be bad.

I'd guess around 40 dba. I have a F-ATX (albeit a different one) and it is noticeably loud. Think max RPM fan, but higher pitch.

You could always try replacing the fan with a Noctua; however, you'd probably need to open up the PSU.

The build using this is all about modding so I'd be comfortable with something like that.

Most of those are derivates of SERVER 1U PSU and due to physical limitations and need for airflow, you should expect them to be on the louder side.

The best Choice for a PSU, if possible, is an SFX as that becomes more common for ITX Builds.

After that, you got a Problem.

I measured an SFX PSU, doesn't fit. I'm using a micro ATX board in a nice and slim optiplex GX280 chassis, which is just tight enough not to play nice.

Oh, that one. I kinda know the Case, its the same as the Optiplex GX150. And the GX260...

The PSU is proprietary due to the way you mount it. You have to glue it in or look for other methods...

For that you need either a Flex ATX or a 1U PSU. But with those come the Problems as the fans are rather small and thus you can expect a rather loud unit.

How much Wattage do you need?? Because some time ago there was this 150W FSP Fanless unit in FlexATX...

I'm going for an i5 with single slot graphics card. looking to have about 300 watts max. I will be modding the case to allow my components to fit, including a custom Flex ATX bracket.
