Lately my pc has been freezing. It is an older pc, but I only use it as a school computer. So, the most I am using it for is Word, web browsing, and data storage. It will boot no problem, but after five to ten minutes of use, it freezes. Just flat out freezes. It doesn’t give me a blue screen and I don’t get a black screen, but my mouse and keyboard will not respond at all. I have tried unplugging and re-plugging in the mouse and keyboard to make sure it wasn’t that, and nothing. No change. Does anyone have a clue as to what the issue might be?

Just an update. I was finally able to do something with the stupid pc. I decided to see how it would act if the side cover was off. I started using it and after an hour and a half of use, it was running fine. Despite this advance in figuring out what is wrong with it, it is now running quite loud. I am not quite sure, most likely due to my lack of experience, but I believe the cpu cooler is throttling. Any thoughts?

To be sure it's a thermal related issue, you can download a program like HWMonitor or RealTemp. They might give slightly different readings but you'll know if it's an issue. It might be useful to go into the BIOS and have a look at the fan settings. They should be on normal, but you might want to turn them on a turbo mode instead.

It also might be useful to make sure all your components are seated properly, just make sure all the cables, 8-pin CPU power connector, 24-pin motherboard power connector and any hard drive or GPU power connectors.
