Looking to build a new gaming rig to replace the 2700x that I put together earlier this year.  Needs to support 2k@144hz or 4k@60hz gaming, some development and video editing. Plan to also do a custom loop for the CPU, GPU and MB using EK components.  Will however have to wait on the GPU becoming available and having an appropriate block and the CPU/MB are suppose to ship next week.  Biggest question is on the importance of high clock speed RAM with Intel.  Should I go for higher than 3200?

I think 3200 is fine.

Everything else looks okay. m.2 is a waste of money.

The 2700x will become a secondary gaming rig for the home theater.  While not a bad combination, I'm not that impressed with AMD outside of the cost/performance aspect.

I meant 1440p @ 144hz actually.  It's either that or the 4k monitor @60hz until a few more high refresh rate monitors launch.

I prefer NVMe since it allows for installation without cables.  Worth the cost just for that aspect.

That's fair.

I'd say 1070ti or higher.

Is this literally just for gaming, not for editing / rendering / etc.?

This build will be used for 90% gaming right now.  In 6 month to a year, it will be replaced probably.  Hoping that the next generation of HEDT will be a huge step forward once everyone is on 7nm.

The memory kit is not aura sync compatible. Nor is the cpu cooler.

I will be doing a EK water cooling loop so the cooler is only temporary.  You are right about the memory and will look at the Aura capable kits.

I'm getting a 2080 Ti and maybe SLI if it starts to get support.  I'm not seeing a lot of support right now with my 2x 1080Ti setup.

Well, if it's for 90% gaming and it'll be replaced in a year, I gotta tell ya, your processor and RAM are complete overkill. Well, I s'pose you can reuse the RAM in the next year, but, yeah, I do question the necessity of the processor.

At the same time, you're clearly a person of means and it doesn't seem money is even remotely an issue.

They typically turn into VM development servers so the RAM does get utilized once not used for gaming.  However, I'm wanting to go with 2080 Ti SLI so i'm expecting a bump from the 9900k over the 2700x.

Fair enough, seems like a good rig overall.
