Samsung 970 2Tb Raid0

I am using a z270 ROG Apex board and recently setup a raid0 array with the new drives. When connected via the DIMM.2 add in card are both these drives running off x4 PCIE 3.0 or are both sharing a single x4 lane along side the other 4 sata ports.

 

Over all write performance seems on low side considering two drives and IOPS vary pretty heavy as well sometimes over 200k and sometimes way under from one run to another but that might but be how that goes.

 

And another thing that threw me off is ever since doing a raid the drives no longer show any temp data in HWMoniter or anything even the magician software just says raid array, I am guessing this is normal? this is my first time using a raid setup.

In any RAID array, putting NVMe SSD in RAID will drop the random IOPS as you are adding latency (Whole point of NVMe is to reduce it).  Sequentials will go up though.

You will need to refer to your motherboard manual about the PCI-Express layout, but it is most likely they are both going through the PCH shared with USB and SATA drives.

When drives go into RAID many software solutions cannot see the drives individually, HWInfo is usually pretty good but never tried with NVMe drives.

I could go back to leaving them separate for the increase in IOPS, the whole reason to raid was just to have them appear as one drive but since I just installed windows again and a few games that can wait till another upgrade.

 

Still some major bottle neck going on though as the speeds should be much faster than that, I think if it was on a PCIE 3.0 card directly to the CPU it would be high closer to double i would never expect perfect scaling but you know what I mean, doing that would mean running my GPU in x8 though would not affect this one but if I do buy a new ROG 2080ti there is a very small hit with x8 3.0.
