Hey all,

I've been thinking about upgrading my PC soon-ish and as capable as I am at system building I just don't want to take the time to do it. I live right down the road from Microcenter and their build service is $99 I believe and TBH that's worth it to me to save time and not have time without a computer. Has anyone used the build service before? Is it good? I've only ever had excellent service from Microcenter but I figured I'd ask.

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

Never used it but from what I've seen their builds are clean, though don't trust them with the parts selection - I asked for quiet fans and they gave me CM MasterFan Pros

I have never used a paid service to build a computer before so I can not know if this is a good or bad service, although I believe that building a computer is a good learning experience and you can more easily troubleshoot hardware problems down the road if you build your computer yourself. The whole process would take a few hours (depending on what hardware you are installing) and could end up saving you time if you happen to need to open the case and change/troubleshoot/ or modify any of your hardware. As long as you take some safety precautions, you should not face any damage or other problems. If I had a bunch of hardware and was to get a computer built I would build the computer myself although if you decide in the end that going to a system builder is more optimal for you them I would do some research and select a reputable builder that would most likely build the computer properly/correctly and could optimize your build also.

Oh I've already built several machines on my own, I just remember not enjoying my last build at all. But to what you were saying, I've been on the fence about using a build service because building the machine on your own does come with a sense of accomplishment. I mostly wanted to use a service because I suck at cable routing AND it stresses me out handling $1000+ worth of hardware that I can't afford to replace.

Thanks guys! My main concern was with DOA hardware or hardware I break. I think I've broken a MOBO before but that was back in 2015 and after 8 hrs of work the system didn't post or even power on and I ended up returning all the hardware. All 3 builds I've done I've gotten really anxious and it's weird because I'd have no stress at all if I was building a system for someone else.
