Emit android troubles

So i downloaded the emit app after Linus' recommendation and it says it can do remote access from external wifi but when ever I try to access my emit server, form an external wifi connection I get a server not available error. It kind works over 4g but it is choppy even on a strong connection, like 15mb/s down. if anyone else uses emit and can maybe help i would appreciate it.
