Hey guys. New to the forums but this seems to be the best place for help when building a new PC. I'm working on my new build for gaming and I'm afraid my PSU isn't going to be able to handle the new components. I have an Antec 500W Semi-Modular, but I am thinking of upgrading to the Corsair RMx 850W, just to be safe. Component list is below, any help appreciated.

MSI Armor OC 8GB RX580

Ryzen 2600

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR4 3000

If the 500W PSU is old you're probably fine replacing it

but what's your budget/country and current parts list?

Should get an ASrock Pro 4 or MSI Tomahawk B450 board at minimum due to VRM heatsinks.

That RX 580 has a pathetic cooler, get something more substantial, or check the used market for like a power color golden sample, or nitro special edition.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Parts are already bought, so I can't really update based on your recommendations Street. I just want to make sure I'm not going to lose my newly purchased stuff to an older PSU.

As far as the actual model I believe it's an Antec BP550, but I can't recall quite now.

Should possibly return at least the GPU unless it was really cheap, you're likely to hate the thermals.

It's unlikely it kills your stuff, it would just be unstable and cause crashing if it's on it's way out.

You can get a bit higher end 550W unit for around $65

For its day the BP550 Plus was a decent budget 80+ psu built by Delta Electronics. 550W should be enough to power the outlined system. But psu do age so I'd suggest investing in a new unit. Although 850W is overkill.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I realize I left something out of my original post, which makes sense considering how late it was. I'm currently running the above setup on the Antec, but during a gaming session a couple nights ago I heard a click come from the PSU and my desktop speakers turned off. During idle last night I heard the same click, which I think came from my PSU.
