Display problems

I have broken the display on my old Sony laptop. I want to use it with a monitor. The only problem is I don't have windows installed. will I get any output when I boot? Will i be able to access the BIOS setting through an external monitor?

Plug in the external display, press the bios key, and see what it does. Quiet often, the bios will be displayed on all displays connected to the PC.

Can you list the display ports it has?

if not, can you link or the name of the laptop model?

HDMI and VGA. 

It's an old sony laptop. SVF14212SNB

tried it. it doesnt work. i can see partially with my broken screen. im at the bios. but it wont output to my monitor. 

i can try installing windows now and then change the display settings. is there any other way to do this.

two options 

pull out hard drive install windows on other pc and put it back or

remember the buttons and procedure of installing windows, do it with monitor and internet connected.

Not easy, gd luck

You could remove the LVDS cable attaching the screen to the laptop. That should set whatever screen you have plugged in to default. You can ofcourse plug that back in eventually, but why would you if you aren't replacing the screen?

I'm installing windows now. but if switch my laptop off and then turn it on again, how can i see the bios?

It should. The computer will see that there is only one screen attached.

and another thing, the laptop won't output to monitor even when I'm at the windows setup. confused...

i think not, the external monitor is usable after getting into windows

I’ll install windows. Is there any setting I can tweak or install any application that will output to HDMI always. I want to see the bios settings through an external monitor.
