How do I make my microphone uni-directional?

P4r4gr4ph

Hey there,

I want to make my mic uni-directional from the top of it. I don't think I'll ever be able to have it completely uni-directional from just adding things onto the mic, but I want to make it as uni-directional as possible in hopes that it will help with background noise and echoing. My microphone is a Neewer NW-800. Here's a picture of it facing upwards for reference:

Thanks,

You can't make the microphone unidrectional, but you can make changes to the environment to help reduce noise.

You'll mainly want to focus on soft goods around the room (acoustic foam, blankets/curtains, etc...) to absorb some of the sound. That will likely do more than anything.

Your microphone has a cardioid pickup pattern, which looks like this:

It'll mainly pickup noise from in front of it, and some from the sides.
