My laptop has finally started to let me down, so I’m trying to put something together for my first build. I’ve been fiddling with pcpartpicker and settled on two builds being almost identical other than the processor and gpu.

I’m tempted to go with the cheaper build and use the ryzen 5 2600 and gtx 1060. But my computer builder buddy recommends that I splurge a little with the ryzen 7 2700x and gtx 1080. In order to future proof and for other reasons I don’t fully get.

From my understanding the cheaper build could still easily do everything I want it to (stream, digital art and gaming) so is it really worth it to drop an estimated $350 more for preformance I won’t notice right away? Especially since I would need to buy a keyboard, monitor, etc. I could put that $350 into that instead.

EDIT: Alright no parts picker list because the specific gpus that I picked jumped in price and atm I don’t have time to look for the cheapest of each. But now the difference is way more than $350.

What are the other parts?

I would go for the r5 2600 build, but change the gtx 1060 for a rx580, save a few bucks and it will be a fully amd build.

I’d attach my list but I need to edit it because the prices just jumped a lot (like the total going from ~$850 to ~$1200) but I was aiming for 16 gbs of ram, 2 tb hhd, compatible motherboard and probably 450 watt power supply. I’m not too worried about the case because I’ll grab something that fits rather than looks.

Holy crap that’s everything that I wanted but priced a lot better than my original list thank you!

My only other question would be if it’d be benificial to grad faster ram? Or if it’s one of those things that you don’t really notice.
