First time on the forums here, Just rebuilt my pc that i bought from Cyberpowerpc a couple years ago.

My parts:

  • MSI Z270 TOMAHAWK OPT BOOST
  • ASUS Turbo GeForce® GTX 1070
  • NZXT H500 Black/Black Mid Tower

So I thought I had done all my research correctly and I Am putting all the new parts in when I get to adding the GPU, I line it up then remove the 2 slots on the back panel so that the ports will stick out, when I realize that there is a bar that separates the 2 expansion slots. Well, I decided that wouldn't work, took off the metal IO cover from the GPU and it fits but I can't mount it to the case, so that won't do. The case had a diagram in the box on how to install the GPU vertically but when I looked it really look like there was actually a way to do that. I then pulled a Scrapyard Wars approach and cut the bar that was blocking the GPU (using a wire cutter instead of a dremel that I would have to charge). I may add pictures later of the terrible job i did. It works but Im left wishing there is some description on sites like Newegg or amazon that let you know that wider GPUs won't fit ( if there is please let me know).

TLDR:

The graphics card wouldn't fit in my case because of a bar that blocked the ports so I tore out the bar.

Are you talking about the vertical bracket on the rear of the H500 case/Vertical GPU mount on the H500i? (Shown here highlighted with red). It has two screws at the back (circled orange) that need to be unscrewed for the bracket to be removed to allow you to properly access the slots for installing a GPU in standard orientation.

Yes, that's the panel. The papers that came in the box with the case showed how to orient the GPU to place it vertically but when I looked at it I realized there was no way to mount the card there. Without making up a way to support it that is haha.

The bar I cut out is the one dividing the panels in the blue circle. image.png.f852f18fa861e054b5af32e20b734edb.png

Oh, I see. Would be interested to see photos if you get some time.

Only the H500i comes with the vertical GPU mount bracket option included. The H500 does not come with it. Check which version of the case you have. You can notice the difference in the different brackets used in the product photos:

I do have the H500, I guess for whatever reason they included a sheet with information for the H500i.
