Hi, so 1 week or maybe more my computer started turning off by itself and without a warning. It has never happened to me before. In the first few days it was turning off only 1 time in a day and then it started turning off two times and now it turns off 4 times a day. I know that this usually is a PCU problem and I started searching for a new one, but I dont really know what to choose. I tried changing the power supply cable, because sometimes when I slightly kick the computer it turns off. I changed it and the problem was not solved. I am looking to upgrade it in the near future, so if I am buying a new PCU I would want it to be more powerful. I also heard that the thermal paste on the cpu may be burned away, but I am not really sure if it is that. BTW my pc is about 5 years old. It is build for gaming and I usually use it for watching videos and playing games. I ran MSI Combustor on stress test and CPU burn individually and at the same time, but it didnt turn off. Can someone tell me the real problem about this pc?

By PCU you're reffering to PSU I guess.

What are your temps overall ? ( you can check temperature by downloading https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html )

Does it happens in specific scenerios like when "you kick the PC" ?
Do you have spare PSU or you can get from some friend to test if the PC will persist having those issues ?

It will be helpful typing your PC specs for further help.

I have an Intel core i5-4460, GTX 960, ASUSRock Z97 Anniversary motherboard, I have a 180gb SSD I think, a 1TB hard drive, a 500 watt power supply and a one of those things for cd and dvd(I dont remember its name in english). Not sure about the specs of the ssd and the hard drive.

It would be most importantly specifing your PSU model, as it may be the part that holds you back. You can check it's model name by opening your side case panel.

Cooler master RS-500-PCAP-I3

It's a 2009 PSU or so. This is the review https://www.hardwaresecrets.com/cooler-master-extreme-power-plus-500-w-power-supply-review/10/

It's an old design and not efficient as it's actually can't provide 500W, it's days could have passed. I strongly suggest you trying with better PSU.

I dont have a friend with a strong PSU that I can borrow so I will probably get a new one. Can you suggest something that will be good for a powerful PC, I will upgrade it in the near future or just buy a whole another PC, because everything in mine is bad and old. btw a friend of my dad built this pc for me and I dont know if he was exactly sure what he was doing. I mean he is working as a system administrator, but he has not studied computers, hardware and all of that stuff. Should I trust him?

Depends. Nowdays there is reviews about everything, you just need some time to read them and part bad from the good ones.

I advise you taking Seasonic focus plus 650w gold as it's a good value for the money, and offers upgrade potential. We will put it with i7 8700 and GTX 1080Ti, so be sure that is a good PSU !

Also I told him that I want a gaming PC for 800 dollars, cuz that was all I had back then. Do you think this PC cost 800 dollars back then? I am starting to think bad stuff...

Well I can see making it up to 800$ but he cheaped out from the PSU definitely as it's a 30 dollars. Your CPU, GPU and Motherboard makes up to total of 680$ so yeah it could be even more than 800$.

I have another problem, but I am not sure if it is a problem tho. I am noticing the CPU is at 100% power when the GPU is at like 60-70% power when I am playing something like GTA 5. Is that normal or is it just the cpu being bad?

GTA 5 is CPU heavy game, and it seems that your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU, it should be the other way around. GPU should be 100% and CPU 60-70%. It's not a rare case, I have the same problem in Assassin's creed Origins 50% GPU usage and 100% CPU. The only way fixing this is by buying equivalent or more powerful CPU.

I advise you taking your questions into private message to me or someone else, as your thread becomes long and out of context. I'll be happy to help you with questions you may have!
