Scrapyard Wars got to me. Where does one start?

PSU: My current machine has a generic power supply that I want to replace asap. I have a budget so I'm mostly looking at used parts. I was about to purchase a Corsair VS550W but then I found the crappy reviews. Good ole Google. I think Seasonic is the recommended brand that is available in my area.

CPU/Mobo/RAM: I was thinking about going with a G4560 but as I spent more time reading, I'm now torn between that and a wafer of Ryzen that has more room for upgrades later. I'm not really picky about the motherboard and ram. Recs?

GPU: Now this is the part that will be totally exciting for me. The last video card that I owned was a cute 512mb 128bit thing. What's the best bang for buck in your opinion? Should I wait a bit more for prices to go down? I've found a few miners in my area selling their gear.

Cooling: Air and AIOs for now.

And...an 18.5" LG Flatron E1941.

(I think I may have the crappiest current rig round here.)

Thank you for reading and another thank you for helping out.

Budget/Country? Considering you don't have a GPU at all you should probably just buy a Ryzen APU system to start.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

If u wanna go brand new, then build something like this.....

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock - B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Team - Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: ADATA - Ultimate SU650 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Case: Cooler Master - MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: Cooler Master - MasterWatt 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

If u wanna go used, then search fr used Dell optiplexs with an i5/i7 of 3rd/4th gen on eBay. They go around fr pretty cheap. If u don't wanna mess with the proprietary board, then purchase a used Mobo, put the cpu ND ram in it nd put it in a new case. Buy an old used GPU like a gtx 780ti/980 as they go around fr about $150-180 on eBay. Also, finally u'll need a psu ND an SSD if u wanna speed up things. Buy cooler master masterwatt or Corsair cxm. They r good budget psus.

I'm the Philippines. The closest thing we have to Kijiji is Facebook Marketplace and instead of Amazon, we have Lazada and Shopee. Budget is I guess between $300-$400 but still flexible.

Then ya just go for an R3 2200G like the above build

except you can reuse your current hard drive, and maybe the power supply if it's decent. Can buy your case later as well

You want to look for an ASrock Pro 4 B450 or MSI Tomahawk B450 only, most other things are overpriced or lacking something.

and you want to get around 3000mhz or better RAM for the APU, 2 4GB sticks most likely.

The only Masterwatt we have around here is their Lite series. Reviews aren't great. So might have to pick something from Seasonic or EVGA.

Looks like Ryzen's the way to go for now. Thanks guys! Time to hunt.

  • 3 weeks later...

Tiny update. I went ahead and got a 620 Seasonic on sale.

Thinking about OC things. Should I get a Ryzen 3 2200G and an AIO or just jump to the Ryzen 5 2400G?

Re: Masterbox Q300L. The aesthetics appeal to me a whole lot. But it doesn't have great reviews when it comes to thermals. Off the top of your head, do you know of any other micro atx chassis with good thermals?
