So I can't for the life of me figure out why my nephew's mic isn't working and I'm out of ideas. He's using a HyperX Cloud headset and the interesting thing is, it's only not working on his PC but other mics work just fine. So far, this is what I've tried

  • Ensured mic wasn't disabled, re seated mic piece
  • Tried both front and back mic ports
  • Reinstalled Realtek Drivers
  • Uninstalled device from device manager and scanned for hardware changes
  • In sound options > communications, tried each setting there
  • Tried checking / unchecking "Listen to this device" in mic properties
  • Settings > Privacy > Microphone .. gave access to mic
  • Tried making another Windows account

This makes no sense to me because the mic will work on any other PC but his and other mics work fine on his PC. Just posting this to see if anyone else has any other ideas before I just reinstall Windows to avoid spending too much time on this.

Have you tested another mic on HIS PC as opposed to the mic on other PCs? Could be a damaged mic port. Also I assume you have it split out of TRRS into one cable for the mic and one for the headphones :)

Yep, other mics work fine on his PC. The headset has 1 cable for mic and one for audio.
