Compatibility For M.2 NVMe

I have the Maximus VII Hero motherboard and I want to get an M.2 SSD for it. The slot of the MOBO is for an NVMe with PCIe x2 support.
Which one of these M.2 drives should I get?

The MP300 is M.2 Sata so its not technically the correct connector but I have heard that these can work in M.2 NVMe slots before

The MP500 is m.2 NVMe but it wants PCIe x4 which my computer can only support x2

Which should I get assuming the product needs to be Corsair?

That motherboard supports NVMe x4(https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO/), and even if it didn't have x4, x2 would work too. It would just be theoretically slower.

That is the the Hero 8 (VIII), I am referring to the Hero 7 (VII). I got the x2 right out of the handbook.

 

My current SSD is an 840 evo, would it be faster than that?

Ah, I see my mistake now. One to many I's. 

 

Yes, it will be faster, though not that noticibly. NVMe is faster for heavy workloads like video editing, not so noticabkle in day to day. As for x2 as opposed to x4, x2 is limited to 1970MB/s, while x4 willl hit the max speed of your drive. By contrast, the 840 Evo is 500-550 MB/s.

Pretty much whenever you see that the slot is NVMe with 2 lanes instead of 4, your hard drive will be limited to the speeds of 2 lanes only, the connection transfer rate/speeds will always be determined by the slowest device in this case a slot of 2 lanes, but PCIe NVMe x2 is still faster than SATA. So, if the manual/user guide of your MOBO says the slot also supports SATA, then you can connect a SATA drive lower rates than NVMe x2 and even way slower than NVMe x4, look at the following link for interfaces rates of PCIe NVME and SATA: 2.5 Host interface
