Laptop screen screwing up

She asked me personally to have a look but unfortunately I do not have much time with a back log of real life work (outside of technology) that desperately needs doing (3 man job done between a 17 year old and a 12 year old...).

What I received through Facebook

tarted off with a small strip at the bottom and been getting bigger. It disappears sometimes then comes back, sometimes I can see through it.

Any ideas guys?

Does it happen on the BIOS screen? Does it happen on external monitors? Did they drop their laptop at any point or hit the screen?

Thanks for the help guys but she's decided to just and go and get a new laptop, this ones a few year old apparently
