Computer will not connect to internet

I recently built a new computer for a friend and installed an official version of windows 10 pro onto it, no problems at all with hardware and besides the internet issue the OS seems to be running fine. However when I went to plug the ethernet in the wifi bar with a yellow caution signal shows up saying no network found despite having tried this on multiple networks. Troubleshooting did nothing and suggested it was a modem or router issue when I know it's not because it works fine with my PC. Any suggestions? Thanks.
