I have never had the need to overclock any CPU. At least, I never really wanted to. But, assuming I would buy these items:

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X (68°C)

Noctua - NH-U9 TR4-SP3 46.4 CFM CPU Cooler

By overclocking to 4ghz (its max), would I actually need a watercooling solution instead of the fan, or would this fan be more than adequate? I just don't feel comfortable using "sealed" water tubes in a PC... you know what I mean.

You are going to need liquid cooling or a much much bigger air cooler. watercooling is perfectly safe as long as you are careful to put it together. If you don't trust yourself you can look for a AIO cooler which would also work.

To be honest, my initial choice was this:
Thermaltake - Water 3.0 Extreme 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

As far as I know, this would be a suitable choice, but I am not 100% sure.

You're not gonna wanna use an AIO like that Thermaltake (or any Asetek based AIO cooler). I have one of those, but the next generation and aren't saying they're bad -- they just don't have a large enough cold plate. Find an AIO made specifically for Threadripper. They have larger cold plates that can cover the IHS adequately.

Ah I see, I will Google for those specifically then. Thanks.

And don't forget about those massive air coolers that are coming out for the new Threadripper. They look pretty awesome too.

I assume they will be compatible with the original series then?

I was looking and asking companies what they recommend (will do my research after of course), but am I missing something? Since this one is a water solution, is the water IN the tubes? Or am I missing something? I took a look at the video, but I don't know. I am not familiar whatsoever with these types of designs.
