Hello guys,

I will be moving my current build from old case to a new one today or tomorrow and I'd like to ask for some tips.

Even though this is not even a full build, it will still be the most work I ever did on my PC myself (the only thing I ever really done before was changing the GPU and adding or removing a HDD/SSD).

I'd like to think that I did a thorough research but still me being a virgin at this, getting corrected or reminded of some steps I may forget would be great.

What my research told me is to:

1) Unplug the PC from the wall and wait a minute for all capacitors to discharge

2) To be sure, take a picture of the open case with all the cables connected to MOBO

3) Remove every PSU connector, then remove the PSU itself from the old case (my PSU is not modular, so I will be taking out all of the cables going from it at once)

4) Remove GPU

5) Remove all the screws holding the MOBO and gently take it out, remove the hard drives

6) Remove the I/O shield

6) Remove the fans I will be moving to the new case

That's for the old case, for the new I should go basically almost in reverse, though with slight changes for easier work right? So:

1) Install the fans, making sure if they are put as intake or output

2) Put in I/O shield, making sure it's oriented right

3) Put in the MOBO and evenly screw it in, going in somewhat X pattern to make sure I do not unnecessarily stress any point of the PCB

4) Install the PSU, making sure its fan is facing down

5) Connect all the power cables I can at the moment and also connecting all the front panel connectors

6) Insert the hard drives and connect them to both the MOBO and PSU

7) Install the GPU

8) Turn the PC on and see if every fan is spinning the right way, see if all the discs and GPU are working

Is this basically it? The thing I am most concerned about is the connectors to front panel, is there possibly any way I can actually fuck this up? As in damage something? Or is it just that if I do not do it correctly the first time, all I need to do is to see where I went wrong and put it on the right pins on the MOBO?

I am sorry for asking such a newbie questions and for such a long post, but having this approach getting approved or corrected would ease my mind a lot.

So beforehand, I thank all of you for taking your time to read and comprehend this and thank you even more for replying to it.

I will try to avoid doing that either way but I will ask this:

Is it really a problem if I accidentally touch any if I will be moving the components on relatively static free enviroment (no carpet), with static wristband attached to the metal part of either case, wash and dry my hands to get rid of the most of the skin oil?

no but better be safe than sorry. you can touch it but try no to touch it too much.

it is very hard to mess up a computer transplant, but I noticed you mentioned fan orientation. there are arrows on the side of the fan that indicates the spin direction and airflow direction, but you can easily tell by the shape of the blades which direction it blows and sucks. basically, you want fans to suck from the front and blow out the back. if you have fan grills on the top, make that exhaust. on the bottom or side, you can make those intake or leave them blank.

also, don't forget to screw in your GPU.

edit: buttons have no polarity. you can plug them backward and they will work. front panel lights won't fry themselves in reverse polarity, so you can just reverse them if you get them in wrong the first time around. you'll know if they don't light up.

Sorry to bother you with more questions, but since you do seem knowledgable about all this, could you also answer me this?

Oh I did not know about these arrows, neat!

Just a question more for the fun of it, is there any difference between the front being intake and back ones being outtake vs them being switched out? Though I suppose I can almost answer this one myself. It's just that there can be more cool air getting sucked in with more intake front fans and also the fact, that if it was reversed, the hot air would go longer way and dissipate more through the case right?

And don't worry I won't forget about that, I may have not written it down in the "step by step by newbie" but as I said, I already at least sucessfully changed GPUs so on that front I am covered. However, thanks for the remainder :)

The general consensus is to set up the fans to follow convection and exhaust hot air out of the case as soon as possible, so just stick with "front sucks in, back blows out."

You wouldn't want to eat from your ass just so it has more time to spend in your body; better get that shit out fast, you know?

just dont pull the things by the wires and remember there should be a guide on the mobo that tells you. the power and reset dont really matter, usb 3 and usb 2 are pretty hard to mess up and audio is meh.

Image result for motherboard front panel pins

there is a guild to the bottom left which tells you where to put stuff.
