Hi everyone!

I'm considering building a new system this year and I really need some help to reach all the performance I need within $3500 budget.

Based on this budget I was able to either get an Intel Sandy Bridge-E processor with some other pretty epic parts:

CPU: Intel 4930k LGA 2011 / Intel 4820k LGA 2011

COOLING: Corsair H100i

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition

MEMORY: 32G (4X8) Corsair Vengeance Pro (Red) @ 2133MHz

GRAPHICS: ASUS R9 290X DIRECT CUII / 2X - ASUS MATRIX R9 280X PLATINUM / MSI TWIM FROZR R9 290

STORAGE: 120GB SSD CORSAIR FORCE GT and WD RED 2TB

POWER: EVGA SUPERNOVA 1000G2

CASE: CM STORM TROOPER (Already have this case)

And with a $2500 budget I could certainly get:

CPU: Intel 4770k LGA 1150

COOLING: Corsair H100i

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA / ASUS MAXIMUS VI EXTREME

MEMORY: 16G (2X8) Corsair Vengeance Pro (Red) @ 2133MHz

GRAPHICS: 2X - ASUS R9 290X DIRECT CUII / 2X - ASUS MATRIX R9 280X PLATINUM / 2X - MSI TWIM FROZR R9 290

STORAGE: 2X - 120GB SSD CORSAIR FORCE GT (RAID 0) and WD RED 4TB

POWER: EVGA SUPERNOVA 1000G2

CASE: CM STORM TROOPER (Already have this case)

I don't really know what system should I build emphasizing that I'm building this to be capable of future expansions without rebuilding all the system.

I'm also have doubts with a RAMPAGE IV EXTREME which wouldn't support the Sandy Bridge-E processor and also  which graphics card should I bought based on a CROSSFIRE configuration (Except from R9 290X and the R9 290 in the first BUILD which I wouldn't have the money to get 2 cards)

If anyone could help me with that either changing the system or implementing parts it would be AWESOME!

Thanks! (And sorry about my english, I'm from Brazil)

What's the system being used for?

Where are you shopping?

If you're going with vid editing the first rig would be best. The 2nd build the storage is kinda overkill considering you can add more to the first.

To be honest those are two solid builds. It's all up to you, which one you think i best for you :')

Don't think anyone can help you really everything seems pucker

The 4930K and the VI Formula is better m8 sorry. The 8350 and 990fx board looses here.

Both gaming and editing :')

Video editing/Rendering and also gaming...

If I was getting this system online would be at AMAZON or NCIX but I'm planning to get in physical stores in NY...

Why not shop online? Is local cheaper?

What kind of content are you working on? Are you editing professionally?  Programs being used?

I am trying to prove that he does not need to spend that much at all and still get good performance.I know the 4930K is better, but doing video editing and gaming CrossFireX 2 R9 290 is better.

Yeah but if I were planning to get 4 graphics card I would opt for the 1st rig and also change the power supply.

What about the RAMPAGE IV EXTREME compatibility with the 4930k? I've heard that I have to download the latest BIOS, but as I'm buying it directly from the store and all new, what should I do?

Because I don't live in USA and I'm going to NY in February 23th to March 4th and I'll be in a hotel. Speaking of video editing it's barely professionally because I still use it for my youtube channel and also professionally. I was using Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC but during problems with RAM in Premiere I moved to Sony Vegas 12.

I'm not talking GPU I meant the cpu m8.

if x2 r9 280x wouldn't be much of a difference in gaming or editing than going r9 290 where the cpu is concerned

Unless he is doing virtualization there is little difference.

Also if he go 4930K only one GPU but the 4770K have 2 GPU,quite confusing too imo

It's cheaper to order online and you can quite easily get items shipped in a few days.

I don't know about compatibility with the modern 4xxx intel cpu. Haven't worked with any before. The IV Formula is2nd gen lga 2011 and it supports x79  intel cpu, correct me if I'm wrong.

You may have to ask someone who has this cpu and mobo to be DEFINITE. Besides that, everything looks good!

good luck :)

For the first build (I'm assuming you care about the aesthetics of the PC):

Get the Dark Rock Pro 2 instead of an H100i. It looks gorgeous, quieter than the H100i (as there's no pump), it's cheaper and performs about the same as the H100i.

Get an R9 290 instead. 290X is pretty much made pointless by the 290 as it's cheaper, perform just albeit worse than the 290X as the clock speeds are lower. I wouldn't suggest going

with the Crossfire option as a single strong card is much better as there is no need to worry about games' compatibility with multiple GPUs, less heat output, less power needed and no micro-stuttering.

Get a quality 600W power supply, 1000W is complete overkill, unless (I probably misread something here) you are planning to Crossfire the 290 in the future when funds are available. I'd recommend Seasonic's X-650/G-650 or their Platinum variant, the 660XP2.

For the second build:

Pretty much the same as the first build.

RIVE will support Sandy-E no problem.

Oh and also, this thread should be posted in this sub-forum instead of here.

Ok, you are right but what about graphics card? Remember I'm in a $3000 budget and I'm still not finding the R9 290X DIRECT CUII Version and neither the Twim Frozr...

Everything I know is that to use it with a RAMPAGE IV EXTREME i have to use FLASH BIOS or buy the RAMPAGE IV BLACK which is the new/implemented version  that works perfectly with the 4xxx series but it's also more expensive!

There's no point to get the 290x over the 290.

I wouldn't even recommend a 4930k unless you're making money that's reliant on how quickly you finish a project and if you make more money due to a 4930k instead of a 4770k.

Thanks a lot. But of course I mentioned in the first rig I was able just to crossfire the MATRIX R9 280X and I'm also disappointed with ASUS that didn't make a non-reference version of the R9 290 .

I'm moving this thread to the right section... Thanks ;)

Not overkill? Not? For 4-way Crossfire, it's not, but for single card solutions, it is.

I just want x2 in the first time, when time passes and it's necessary to upgrade I want my system pretty much ready to further expansions...

Yeah but as ASUS screwed a bit with letting the R9 290 with the reference version there's no pointing of getting it. I'm looking for the MSI Twim Frozr R9 290 version but as MATRIX R9 280X is in a better price I don't really know what graphics card should I buy emphasizing that I want my system ready for future expansions without any headaches.

It's what he wants m8. I'm tired of convincing people to spend less. I think it's a good buy if he has the money. I can't tell people how to spend their's, I said x2 280x m8. He wants crossfire. It's not much of a gain when you have x2 280x vs x2 290
