Hello,

First of all this is my setup:

I5 6500

MSI GTX 1060 6GB

Kingston 16GB DDR4 2133Mhz

Asus maximus VIII Gene z170 ( got this one because my older non Z MB audio chip broke)

500 watt Be quiet PSU

2x HP 27er monitors (60hz,8ms)(also have a LG 29um55-p)

So when i play for example BF4 on Low settings i get a steady 60 FPS, but i like to have Youtube or twitch open in the background.
When i do this my CPU is at 100% and causes FPS drops to 40FPS which is really annoying.

I also noticed in games like The Division my CPU is always at 100% (everything on low,Vsync on or off). I tried disabling 1 core so it couldnt get to 100% but then i get even more FPS drops.

After some research i first wanted to upgrade to a I7 7700K which is 300 euro new in my country, then Ryzen 5 came in the picture and i was looking up prices and if i go for the ryzen 5 2600 with a new MB it would cost around 250 euros.

I asked on a local FB group what my best option would be and every began to say that i should just turn Vsync off because it would take up to much resources and buy a new monitor with Gsync because then i wouldnt have to use Vsync.

Now i agree that a Gsync monitor would be really nice to have but my CPU still wouldnt be capable of holding up in the future. And Gsync monitors are 550euro + here.

So what would you guys do and why, any advice is appreciated!

Vsync does not use extra resources. I doubt if these people even know what Gsync does, other than 'Gsync makes your internet penis 1000% bigger'.

that's a symptom of not having enough CPU power. Try to find a 6700k or 7700k for less than 250 euros used. Any more than that, might as well save up and buy an 8600k and new mobo, the gains there are far more significant.

Ryzen 5 2600 is also a viable option, though it's not better value than the 8600k in this case because of low-frequency memory (which hurts Ryzen performance significantly more than Coffee Lake). It is cheaper though, so consider it a budget alternative to the 8600k

Thanks for replying in both of my posts! Just to sum up everything. i7 7700k would be pretty much the best option for my Motherboard. I have looked everywhere and i cant find any reliable second hand i7 7700k CPU's, probably because everyone is using them theirselves. The i7 8700k looks awesome but to be fair the CPU alone costs 360euros + around 75 to 100 euro for a new motherboard. The ryzen 5 2600 on the otherhand, IF my current DDR4 Ram is compatible it would cost me roughly 250 euros for both CPU and new MB.

A side note:

My goal is 1080P gaming, i have no interest in going to 4k.

1440p would be an extra but not needed.

I dont even care for ultra quality settings honestly, i just want a smooth 60 fps to play my video games.

1080p 60fps no need for ultra settings? Then there's no need to go for Intel CPUs. Just Ryzen will do, even with slow memory.

It most likely will be. Even 'incompatible' memory at worst just doesnt overclock beyond 2666MHz, which is fine when your sticks are meant to do 2133 from the start

You keep mentioning slow memory on the Ryzen CPU's, im curious on what you mean by that.
