Hi guys! I just ordered a MSI GTX1080TI and got a i5-8600k to avoid any possible bottleneck but I’m a little intimidated on updating the motherboard BIOS.. since the processors are same gen can I just swap them? Aside from price difference I decided to go with the i5-8600k to avoid the update the i7 requires

Also, anyone know where I can get m-m Sleeved 24 pin & 8 pin replacement connectors? My PSU is fully modular but only need the gpu & motherboard cables since all other cables are hidden. My current sleeved cables are extensions and they are a bit crowded in the back.

Thanks in advance!! ?

You need a new motherboard.

The 6600K and 8600K are definitely not the same generation, the 6600K is 2 years older. Coffee Lake(8th gen) CPUs require a B360, H310, H370, or Z370 motherboard to work.

Guess I didn’t do enough research ?

is there a cpu that is compatible that will not cause bottleneck? I didn’t want to go over $1k to upgrade to the GTX 1080TI

The 8600k isnt campatible with the mobo from that gen. The 8600k is 2 gens newer and requires a 300 series mobo.

Thanks for the help! I will look into a new CPU that is compatible with my motherboard or I’ll just have to upgrade the motherboard as well ?

Sadly there isnt a CPU worth spending money on in the current mobo. Nothing is much of an upgrade. Your CPU is allready good as it is no need to upgrade yet. Unlesd you need it for a specific usecase

A 6700K or 7700K shouldn't bottleneck.

I was originally going to get another GTX1070 for my pc to run both SLI but after doing more research it seems that one card is the better choice.. I did research on the 1080 and then came across the 1080ti. Ideally I would like to go with the 1080ti.. but I may have to re-think about it since I’ll have to upgrade the mobo as well to run it to it’s full potential. I was hoping to simply swap the gpu but some people say it will bottleneck  and others say it won’t.. so I thought I’d get a more powerful cpu “just in case” thinking I’ll be fine as long as it’s an i5 ?

But these will require the mobo BIOS update? I’m afraid I’ll kill my mobo ?

With the i7 6700k you will not need to update your current motherboard bios
