I am looking to add a switch to my home network that has 10 Gigabit capabilities. I have the following hardware:

- Router: Asus RT-AC3200

- several RJ45 10/100 Mbps devices (printers, UPS etc)

- multiple RJ45 10/100/100 Mbps (Gigabit) devices (computers, laptops, consoles etc)

- one server (one more to be added soon hopefully) running a Chelsio 10GbE Dual SFP+ N320E T320 network card

I am looking for the cheapest possible switch (of decent quality) that can do what I need it to do and that is available in the UK. Refurbished/used is not a problem.

The cheapest I could find in the UK is the Quanta LB4M 48 PORT Gigabit 10/100/1000 SFP+ Switch. It's a managed switch with the following ports: 48 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports, 2 x SFP+ 10GbE Ports and it is selling for under $100 at: http://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/quanta-lb4m-48-port-gigabit-10-100-1000-sfp-switch/ (sold in excelling condition and with a 30-day warranty).

Is that switch good for what I need it to do? Are there any other possibilities in the same price range?

Also, is there anything else I need to get this working? I have the SFP+ cable (a CAB-10GSFP-P4M 10G SFP+ DAC Direct Attached Copper Twinax 4 metre) and I am expecting transceivers would be coming with the switch, right? Sorry, I'm quite a beginner in multi-gigabit networking.

DAC cables do not need transceivers, that switch can only take 2x DAC or 2xSFP+ on those uplink ports

Something to note is not all switches work with all transceivers or DAC cables.

In general transceivers never come with a switch, but if you are using DAC then you don't need them.

If you want affordable transceivers try fs.com

If you just need server -> multi-host bandwidth I'd just LACP the server assuming your existing switch is managed/smart.  10g is cool for when you also have a single client stream transfer you want >1 Gbps.

If you only needed a pretty straightforward layer 2 switch with more 10g interfaces the Mikrotik CRS317-1G-16S+RM is relatively inexpensive (~300 quid).

Those quanta switches are pretty noisy.
