I volunteer as an organization where we don't have a large budget for upgrading computers. We do that all the time an I have never had an issue if they were the same time. I even have had success mixing ram types on some systems. Glad I was able to help.

Thank you! :)

I have a PC with 8GB of ddr3 1600mhz ram and I have noticed that on some games with a lot of mods I'm almost at the 8gb mark, I don't want to have to buy another 8gb stick as I know I wont use it all, and I need to save money where ever I can as I need to get some new peripherals.

Is it possible for me to only get a 2gb or 4gb stick(ddr3, 1600mhz) to make 10/12gb?

I've seen mixed replies online so I don't know.

I have a Motherboard with 4 memory slots and I'm not too concerned with dual channel.

My motherboard is the gigabyte B85-HD3 if you need to know.

Thanks for any replies :)

A few mobos out there are picky, but in my experience, even proprietary OEM motherboards will do it, just not in dual channel and I personally have never had a computer not work in that config as long as they are the same type (if it has PC3-8400 memory in it for example, make sure the new ram is the same as that). So my answer is yes.
