Big companies like to overprice things a bit. Any other alternative that I can use for school purposes.

My school spec recommendation:

• CPU: Intel Core i5

• HDD: Minimum 500GB

• RAM: Minimum 8GB

• Operating System: Windows 7 or later

• Others: Wireless adapter must minimally support IEEE 802.11g standard

Get a refurbished/used thinkpad. It will serve you better than many cheap laptops in the $300 price range.

I need a receipt though so buying through sites such as ebay (or in my country its carousell) is not an option. My price range is $1000 and below. Thanks for the help!

Singapore, weight and display size doesn't matter. Battery should be decent and should last me about half-full day.
