Hello,

I need some advice to clarify some points. I'm looking for a new IPS monitor around 200€ to replace my 24" IPS LG and my choices are pretty limited (i live in Reunion Island and a lot of websites, such as Amazon, don't ship here). On the website I usually buy computer stuff on, I found an AOC PDS271 (https://www.amazon.com/AOC-PDS271-Designed-Porsche-1920x1080/dp/B073PFJ4JJ) and I felt in love with it ! It is a very gook looking monitor, and I'm a carguy, so Porsche, you know ! Haha !
Anyway, according to TrustedReview and TechAdvisor, it is a decent IPS monitor with good colors. But, I do have two questions :

1. Is AOC a good monitor brand ? I don't really know if any brand outside of LG and Samsung is good.

2. Does 27 inches make Full HD images look a bit weird and not sharp ? Should I grab the 24" one ?

It will be used for photo processing, video editing and watching movies. Do you really notice a difference between 24 an 27 inches for the same FHD resolution ?

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it !

I would say 1080p max. 24" and 1440p max. 27". 1080p looks as you already mentioned not that sharp on 27". Maybe just get a 24" screen instead or go higher with a WQHD (1440p) monitor.

And yes, AOC is alright, but I'm not sure if this is good enough for editing. What is your budget?

edit:  I would recommend for 24" a Dell U2415 WUXGA (1920x1200), because I know that this is a good one. I can't say if this specific AOC monitor is good. And 27" WQHD (2560x1440) I know that those are pretty good: HP Pavilion 27q and Iiyama ProLite XUB2792QSU. Maybe one of them will be available for your location and fit in your budget.

1080p at 27" looks a bit not-sharp, I'd really recommend 1440p for desktop use at that size, or if you'll be gaming get a 24" 144HZ 1080p panel

This ^^^ I play on a 24" 1080p screen, that's about the limit for 1080p IMO. 27" looks much to pixelated IMO (but then I work on an iMac 5K which is also a 27" screen). Personally I'd like a 24" 1440p display or 4K for 27", but then I like my super sharp eye candy.

Honestly if you're going for just photo editing and movies I don't know why you'd want a 1080 monitor.

But, you might also want to consider VESA mounts, since if you have the space (and your photo editing n such) 2 monitors is at least twice as good as one you might want to stick them together somewhat.

About this particular screen, I saw 3 reviews of it saying it's ok, for example : "We certainly weren’t expecting 100 percent of sRGB and 87 percent of Adobe RGB gamut, a colour performance that many screens sold for professional use might consider offering." from TechAdvisor.

About the Dell, a friend of mine recommended the exact same one to me. I guess I'll try to look if I'm able to find one here ! :)

27" for 1080p is totally fine, I used it for years and don't have any problem with it. AS LONG AS you keep your distance from your monitor at least 70 cm or more, if you like to sit closer than that you will feel like the texts are pixelated. btw 1440p for 27" is much better ofcoz.

AOC PDS271 is very overpriced (by the word porsche..) with that price you can get something like Acer G257HU which is 1440P IPS, more convenience for large photo editing.
Or if you really wanna stick to the luxury design, then get either Asus MX279H if you want 1080p or Asus VZ27VQ for 1440p. both of them are better than AOC PDS271.
