Looking into getting a new chair starting my research now so when I can afford it I can just get it. I like sitting up high so my shoulders can be relaxed, somewhat, at my desk.

Currently using my roommates drum stool(throne as he says) and it sits where I'd like it to, but it just has nothing else for it. Sits about 17-20 inches high by what I estimate(I'm 5'11 with longish legs for my height and can have them at a 90 degree angle with my feet flat on the floor).

I'd like something that can be roughly that high while being ergonomic and preferably isn't leather/pleather. Would anyone have suggestions on chairs?

I know I'm probably asking a lot and may have to have some compromises in some places(especially if I don't want to pay an arm and a leg).

budget?

check out your local office supply store and sit in the display chairs. you probably won't get a good assessment of long-term sitting but it should give you an idea of feel.

Sounds like a good idea, and no real budget in mind, I'll just be saving up and when I get the money I get it, but at the same time I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

Hmmm .... weird, can you explain why ???

It's basically the same as all the other "racing" gaming chairs. Eventually the foam goes flat and they lose the comfort. Initially they are super nice though. I would say it could be a high grade foam, but it's exactly the same price point as everything else and I think they do use a pretty decent yet standard foam. Eventually you start to "sink" through the foam and end up on the hard metal base underneath.

Also reclining in them is kind of annoying. The wings on the side prevent you from getting comfortable putting your arm/hand behind your head, the "headrest" pillow is... a terrible solution for that. It's just rubber banded on... at least the DXRacers have the seatbelt pass through holes you can tie the pillow to. The biggest actual issue for me is when you recline the arm rest don't move and don't pull back enough to comfortably use when reclined.

So when you're reclined I don't know what you're supposed to do with your arms, and mine are freakishly long.. You can't put them behind your head because it's uncomfortable, and you can't put them on the arm rest because they're too far away.

The unfortunate thing is that other than those 2 issues they are generally pretty damn nice chairs for the price. They just get a bit uncomfortable after a while.
