This question has probably been asked many times before on the forums but here it is.

so I am running a bit low on storage at the moment on my internal HDD's (around 200Gb left after removing a few of my games) and i was looking at buying some more [i live in Australia so things are naturally expensive]. is there any sort of foreseeable problem me running NAS based drives inside of the system for storage of "personal files" and the game files (i don't want the whole but an ssd will offer better performance cause i already know that) i'm looking at buying 2 of whichever drive i pick to replace my 2 x 1TB HDD's (striped), to sit alongside my 4TB HDD.

if i buy 2 x 4TB BarraCuda drives it will cost $312 which will be a lot of storage for the time being

or do i spend a bit extra on the 6TB NAS drives which will increase the cost to 500 for both and last quite a bit longer (but i am still a file wh&*e but it should last until i get the 3 or 4 10TB drives to go with the next computer i buklo) (as 6TB and above in Australia seems to be cheaper going a NAS option)

4TB - https://www.mwave.com.au/product/seagate-st4000dm004-4tb-barracuda-35-sata3-desktop-hard-drive-ac05723

6TB - https://www.mwave.com.au/product/seagate-st6000vn0033-6tb-ironwolf-35-sata3-nas-hard-drive-ac11559

I don't really want to get the 10TB drives as of yet as they are over $500 a piece and the drives i get now will be used for a NAS system i set up later with an old computer (my current setup acts as the NAS in the house currently but i do want a dedicated system for it)

any help is appreciated

Hello WickedStarfish,

Well, the best time to get a NAS level hard drive is when you need a NAS level hard drive. Mainly the difference is endurance, a NAS level drive will resist more heavy workloads than drives for home, so if you are worried about endurance/durability of course NAS is the way to go. Also any hard drive also has limitations on the amount of data that can be written, of course NAS doubles normal drives but knowing or having an idea how much data you will be writing can help you answer the question "Do I need a NAS hard drive".

I am pasting the links for reference and I personally believe that you need to take a look at the FireCuda also:

  2. https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/hdd/barracuda/

I don't think the FireCuda Drives will help me as i believe i need more storage than they will offer as this is my computer currently (only got the "Base Storage" HDD about 4 or 5 months ago)

the computer that i am using them in usually is on all of the time except for when i go to sleep (stays on when i'm at work or if i have to go anywhere)

For what you are saying I guess the Barracuda is not for you, it is not prepared to stay on, working 24/7.
