Hi guys!

Just registered to this forum, been watching Linus videos for over 2 months now because I'm building my first pc. I want to use it for light video editing, sound editing (since I'm a musician) and gaming.

I came across this bottleneck video that got me thinking...

Here is my build:

-AMD Ryzen 5 2600x (stock cooler for now)

-G.skill (2X8Gb) Trident Z DDR4 3200MHz

-ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F

-Samsung 250Gb 970 Evo Nvme M.2

-Seagate Barracuda 1Tb

-NOX URANO VX750W 80+ Bronze

First I thought: I'm not busting the bank so I'm pairing my AMD CPU with an AMD GPU, it'd be good to get an ASUS ROG STRIX RX580 (since my motherboard is already a ROG STRIX). What graphics card should I buy for this purpose? Is the ram's speed ok in this build? Is the ram model the right one? I'm kinda clueless since it's my first build. Am I doing anything wrong? Would you guys recommend getting a used GPU? Need help!

Thank you guys.

Welcome to the forums! And the build seems pretty good, just I'd replace the PSU with a 2017 CX unit or (if you can afford a $60-80 PSU) an EVGA G3 unit. As for the GPU, go for the RX580 or a 1060, they're very good 1080p cards, I'd get whichever is most affordable. I wouldn't buy them used though, since they are the best mining cards so they may have been abused running at max 24/7. If you do go used, try for an EVGA Nvidia card because they have an amazing warranty, or look for a 970 or 980.

That cpu is good for what you want, the cooler will be fine unless you want to do larger overclocks.

That is the fastest ram that makes a difference. Faster RAM doesn't do anything.

Good motherboard.

Good NVME drive, but barracuda drives are known for dying.

Get a different PSU. Get something like a corsair 600w. You shouldn't need that many watts with that build, and get something reputable because that going bad can ruin the rig.

The 580 will be good. 40 dollars cheaper than a 1060 if you want to go with that instead.

i5-8600k, MSI Z370-A Pro, 2x 8GB DDR4-3k, MSI Gaming X 1060, NZXT S340, 2TB HDD, 750w Corsair PSU, AOC 2775 OC'd to 80Hz and CFG73 at 144hz

Comic sans is the worst font

No, budget for the entire system.

The fact that you know a lot of people that use a particular psu does not mean it is the best choice for your system.

The 80+ certification levels certify electrical efficiency. Simply put, a measure of input (AC) power consumed to provide power drawn (DC) by components. There is no certification of the quality of power delivered to components, nor safety mechanisms in the design, nor component or build quality.

NOX is not a well known brand outside of Portugal & Spain. There are few reviews. However I did come across a thread that talks about the Urano line. http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=144875&postcount=31 suggests something is not quite right.

When choosing a psu keep in mind that psu directly affect all other components to the point that a poorly designed failing unit can take out an entire system. PSU affect system stability, component lifetimes, and overclocking. Investing in a superior unit is usually worth the cost.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
